Texts From Graphics: A Collection of Essays Exploring the World of Design

Unveiling the Ideas and Perspectives of Graphic Design Professors

The book originates from the need of the University of Monterrey to represent the graphic design program. The objective is to show the ideas of the professors of the university and the growth that the career has had through their professional perspective.

Texts From Graphics, a design project by Reset Co., is not your typical book on graphic design. It is a unique collection of essays written by academic authors from the graphic design program at the University of Monterrey (UDEM). These essays delve into the concerns and ideas held by the professors, providing readers with an insightful exploration of the field.

What sets Texts From Graphics apart is its innovative approach to presenting complex ideas. The book employs a creative iconographic system that simplifies these concepts, making them more accessible to a wider audience. Each chapter is accompanied by a change in the visual set, highlighting the main ideas through hierarchies, typographical selections, and compositions. This dynamic and light reading experience engages readers and enhances their understanding of the subject matter.

The design of Texts From Graphics was carefully realized using cost-effective methods and materials, without compromising on quality and formality. The book is printed in black and white on 90 grams bond paper, ensuring a low production cost. To guarantee durability, a section sewn binding method in hard paste was employed. The cover is adorned with a UV varnish, adding a touch of sophistication to the overall design.

Measuring at 143mm x 12mm x 221mm, Texts From Graphics is a compact yet impactful publication. Its dimensions, along with the use of UV varnish on the cover, contribute to its visual appeal and tactile experience.

The typographic system created for Texts From Graphics plays a crucial role in facilitating a better understanding of the essays. It serves as an introduction on the section covers, preparing readers for the complex concepts expressed in the text. Throughout the pages, the typographic system acts as visual relief and support, enhancing the overall reading experience.

The project was realized in 2017 in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, and was presented in the Vicerrectoria de Arte, Arquitectura y Diseño (VIAD) of the University of Monterrey. Extensive research on creative processes and design methodologies was conducted to ensure the effective expression of the concepts through the iconographic system.

Despite the challenges posed by a limited budget, Texts From Graphics successfully captures the essence of graphic design at UDEM. It showcases the expertise and unique perspectives of the professors, while providing readers with a visually engaging and intellectually stimulating experience.

Texts From Graphics was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Print and Published Media Design category in 2020. This prestigious accolade recognizes the book's well-designed, practical, and innovative approach, meeting professional and industrial requirements. It is commended for integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, contributing to a better world.
